Packed with character and interesting characters, the markets of Bath provide a great way to get to know the locals, whilst perhaps picking up a bargain or two.
The daily Guildhall Market is always popular and enjoys a central setting, just across from the Corridor and the NatWest bank. Bath's extremely historic Guildhall Market has existed on this site for over 700 years and stalls include antique silverware, jewellery, fresh meat and vegetables, a delicatessen, cheeses, old-fashioned sweets, books, leather bags, hardware items, tools, takeaway food, a barber's shop and electrical goods.
Bath Guildhall MarketThe Guildhall Market is situated in the High Street, right in the heart of the city's busy shopping centre. This is one of the main markets and is full of fascinating family owned stalls, in the grand Guildhall building, which is close to Pulteney Bridge and just around the corner from the Victoria Art Gallery.
Farmers' Markets
There are two regular farmers' markets that are held every month in Bath, at the old Green Park railway station, close to the supermarket. This market sells a huge variety of organic vegetables, potted meats, cider, fruit juices, cheeses, pates, eggs, flowers, plants and much more besides. This undercover market is very atmospheric and there are often street entertainers nearby.
Green Park Station Friday Markets
Every Friday at the Green Park station a varied market takes place. With a number of inexpensive market stalls, selling a variety of goods, such as jewellery, second-hall books, music CDs, paintings, plants, trees, tools and gifts, this is one of the best markets in Bath to find genuine bargains.
Twerton Market
Twerton Market is held every Thursday in the car park of Bath City Football Club, close to the High Street within the city's Twerton shopping area. This open-air market starts at around 09:00 and stands sell fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, cheeses, clothes, toiletries, household goods, plants, flowers and much more besides.
Christmas Market
The Christmas Market is one of the newest in the city and has already become a Yuletide tradition, running for just under three weeks from late November to mid-December. This popular continent-style Christmas market is held in the heart of the city during early December, to one side of the Bath Abbey, along York Street and around the oval Abbey Green. The stalls are housed in some 130 individual wooden chalets. Visitors can expect hot mulled wine, German sausages, jewellery, pottery and big crowds.
